Easter Island

Easter Island (Rapa Nui):  Best known for its mysterious statues. There are various theories of its history and origin the most famous stating that this once forested island became a barren island due to unintentional ecocide by the inhabitants of the island and is today considered one of the most isolated islands on earth. The mysterious moai statues stand in silence but speak volumes about the achievements of their creators.

Though most visit the islands to explore the open air museum of around 400 odd figures in various form of completion. Visiting all the main archaeological sites takes around two days. There are two white sand beaches and scuba diving, surfing and snorkelling are popular here. Taking an established tour with a local guide is the best way to explore the island. Trekking and horse riding are other activities to indulge in.
