Kenya - Mount Kenya & Masai Mara Adventure

Kenya - Mount Kenya & Masai Mara Adventure - 5 Days / 4 Nights Tour. Travelling north from Nairobi through the lush farming communities from Thika to Nyeri, the landscape drops away to the west into the Great Rift Valley, creating a dramatic back-drop to the journey. The bird-watching and views around Mount Kenya and the lakes are spectacular, while the big-game in Masai Mara is unforgettable.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Aberdares


Pick up point: Intercontinental Hotel or Safari Park Hotel

Clients to make own way to pick-up hotel  in Nairobi by 0730hrs and drive north to Nyeri, one of Kenya's major towns and provincial headquarters and then on to the Aberdare Country Club. Here you’ll enjoy a bounteous buffet lunch amidst the beautiful gardens before you are transferred (around ½ an hour) to your night's destination at the Ark, a uniquely shaped lodge tucked away in the Aberdares National Park. Spend the afternoon at leisure. Overnight at the Ark on a full board basis.

The Ark:
Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, this unique lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick that attracts a host of wildlife, including elephant, rhino, leopard, bushbuck and occasionally an elusive bongo or giant forest hog. Resembling and named after Noah's Ark, the Ark comprises of three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for game viewing. A ground level bunker also provides excellent photographic opportunities. Comfortable en suite cabins are fitted with buzzers to announce the arrival of one of the ‘big five’ at the water hole!

Day 2 - Aberdares - Lake Nakuru


An early morning start takes you north west as you head for Nyahururu, still known to many as Thomson's Falls for its 237 foot cascade. Now travel in a southerly direction to your next destination, the spectacular Lake Nakuru. This is often coloured a shimmering flamingo pink, from the beautiful birds lining its shores.  You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. Following lunch there is an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge as the sun sets.

Lake Nakuru Lodge:
Lake Nakuru Lodge is situated in the heart of one of Kenya's most densely populated wetland National Parks, (Ramsar site) only two leisurely hours' drive from Nairobi, through beautiful forested uplands and passing a series of lakes. On the outskirts of the bustling market town of Nakuru lies a truly remarkable national park which has achieved international fame. Both black and white rhino are being given a new lease of life in this 188 sq km, fully-fenced park - and they are carefully protected. The present rhino population is over 50 and continuing to multiply. The Rothschild giraffe is another rarity and the park has its fair share of buffalo, leopard, zebra, eland, waterbuck and lion. Lake Nakuru Lodge is in the south-east ecological niche of the park, with commanding views of the lake and the flamingos for which it is justly famous. Lush gardens surround the lodge and cottages. There is a good programme of activities and evening entertainment.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara Game Reserve


After an early morning breakfast, drive to Narok town via Mai-Mahiu with a brief a rest stop and proceed on to Mara arriving in time for lunch at the camp. After lunch, depart for an afternoon game drive returning back to the camp as the sun sets.

Mara Leisure Camp:
Mara Leisure, a tented Camp nestled in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve on the banks of the Talek River. The camp is situated on the northern border of the game reserve and this makes all areas of the park accessible for game viewing. The Maasai Mara is renowned for its abundance and diversity of wildlife and your stay here should be rewarded with sightings of the BIG FIVE – lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. You will have the chance to meet the local Maasai community and interact with them and learn of their traditional lifestyle. Mara Leisure Camp offers an all inclusive safari destination, with three daily game drives, experienced Maasai guides and visits to cultural and community projects within the Talek Area. The camp offers 26 tents, three family cottages, a dining and bar area and a swimming pool.

Day 4: Masai Mara Game Reserve


Early morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 5 : Masai Mara Game Reserve - Nairobi


After breakfast you’ll depart the Masai Mara and head across acres of rolling wheat and barley farms to Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. From here cross the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley whilst keeping an eye out for herds of giraffe and gazelle before heading up the rift escarpment. You’ll arrive into Kenya’s bustling capital in the early afternoon. Once in the city, clients will be dropped off at the drop off point in the city centre for your ongoing travel arrangements.
